Following an “eighty days later” interlude, Jeevan and Kirsten walk out into a profoundly changed world. Jeevan can’t bear to leave Kirsten to fend for herself, so along she comes to his brother Frank’s apartment. In HBO Max’s Station Eleven, many of the same bones remain (though Jeevan is now unemployed), but with a different outcome: when the wrangler can’t be found, Jeevan chaperones Kirsten to her front door, but no one is home. ![]() Jeevan walks over a thousand miles to end up in Virginia, where he becomes the town doctor, while Kirsten, after the death of her parents and brother, eventually falls in with the Traveling Symphony, a nomadic troupe of actors and musicians who perform Shakespeare for the scattered settlements of the Great Lakes region. Jeevan helps Kirsten locate the child actor wrangler, then splits off to his brother’s apartment, never to see Kirsten again. In the backstage chaos following his collapse, Jeevan encounters young Kirsten Raymonde, an eight-year-old actress blindsided by Arthur’s death. Though Arthur is pronounced dead by cardiac arrest, we soon learn he’ll be one of the first to die of the Georgian Flu, a fatal pandemic sweeping the globe. At a fateful performance of King Lear, Jeevan leaps on stage to save the life of Arthur Leander, a movie star moonlighting as a Shakespearean actor who collapses during his performance.
